a yogi’s guide to setting resolutions

as we bid farewell to the past and welcome the new year, we find ourselves faced with the unique tradition of self-discovery and growth. unfortunately, many of us overlook this opportunity, getting lost in the mere act of setting resolutions without possessing the necessary commitment or motivation to follow through. even still, the question in front of us every year is always, how can I be better?

do not let this question overwhelm you. through mind is matter, it brings me joy to provide you with the wherewithal to properly cultivate a more conscious and balanced life this new year. by approaching our resolutions with mindfulness, we can align our intentions with our higher selves, discovering greater purpose and dedication, crafting commitment through clarity.

consider the following guide when setting your resolutions this year:

reflect on the past

before setting new resolutions, it is essential to reflect on the year that has passed. take time for introspection and evaluate your spiritual growth, challenges, and lessons learned. acknowledge the experiences that have shaped you and practice gratitude for the wisdom gained. this reflection will serve as a foundation for setting more meaningful and realistic resolutions.

practice self-awareness

explore what truly resonates with your authentic self; dig up your passion and never stop polishing it. this process of self-examination allows us to develop a keen sense of what our authenticity looks and feels like, weeding out the trivial ways in which we are dishonest with ourselves.

prioritize your well-being

true growth involves nurturing and respecting all aspects of our being. whatever our resolutions are, we must prioritize self-care in how we choose to achieve these goals. by nurturing all dimensions of ourselves, we create a harmonious environment for growth.

practice self-compassion

Buddhism teaches us the importance of compassion and kindness towards ourselves and others. as you set resolutions, resolve to be more forgiving and understanding of your shortcomings. there are always bumps in the road to achievement. be gentle with yourself; allowing ourselves space for growth is an act of self-love, requiring patience and humility.

practice gratitude

gratitude is a powerful spiritual practice that shifts our focus from scarcity to abundance. by embracing gratitude, you invite more positivity and joy into your life, creating a more fertile ground for growth and positive change.

connect with a higher source

dedicate time for meditation or prayer to foster a stronger relationship with your beliefs and intentions. by cultivating this connection, you open yourself up to receive guidance and wisdom from a higher source.

New Year’s resolutions possess the potential to transcend mere temporary goals; even smaller commitments can serve as a catalyst for profound transformation. by approaching our resolutions with a more mindful perspective, we are able to harmonize our intentions with that which will best nourish progress on our chosen path.

I wish you all the best of luck as you embark on this next chapter. it is a gift to hope you have a Happy New Year and offer you these practical spiritual strategies. and, as always, thank you for reading mind is matter ♥︎
